PET flooring, a popular choice in the flooring market, offers numerous advantages such as durability, moisture resistance, and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. As a PET flooring supplier, I am often asked about the installation steps for this type of flooring. In this blog post, I will guide you through the process, ensuring a successful installation. PET Flooring

Step 1: Preparation
Before starting the installation, it is crucial to prepare the area where the PET flooring will be installed. This includes cleaning the subfloor thoroughly to remove any dirt, dust, debris, or unevenness. A clean and level surface is essential for the proper adhesion and long – term performance of the PET flooring.
First, sweep the subfloor to get rid of large particles. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to remove fine dust. If there are any bumps or depressions on the subfloor, you may need to use a floor leveling compound. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when applying the leveling compound, and allow it to dry completely before proceeding.
Measure the area where the flooring will be installed accurately. This will help you determine the amount of PET flooring you need to purchase. It is advisable to add an extra 5 – 10% to account for cutting waste and any unforeseen circumstances.
Step 2: Acclimation
PET flooring needs to acclimate to the environment where it will be installed. This process allows the flooring to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room, reducing the risk of expansion or contraction after installation.
Place the PET flooring in the installation area for at least 48 – 72 hours. Keep the boxes sealed during this time to prevent any damage. Do not stack the boxes too high to avoid warping of the flooring.
Step 3: Layout Planning
Once the flooring has acclimated, it’s time to plan the layout. Start by finding the center of the room. You can do this by measuring the length and width of the room and marking the mid – points on each wall. Then, draw a chalk line from one mid – point to the opposite mid – point. This line will serve as your reference for laying the first row of flooring.
If the room has irregular shapes or obstacles such as columns or doorways, you need to plan how to cut the flooring pieces to fit around these areas. It is a good idea to make a sketch of the room and mark where the cuts will be made.
Step 4: Installation of Underlayment (Optional but Recommended)
Installing an underlayment can provide additional benefits such as sound insulation, moisture protection, and a more comfortable walking surface. There are different types of underlayments available, such as foam, felt, or cork.
Roll out the underlayment across the subfloor, starting from one corner of the room. Make sure the underlayment is laid flat and smooth, with no wrinkles or bubbles. Overlap the edges of the underlayment by about 2 inches and tape them together using a strong adhesive tape.
Step 5: Installing the First Row
Begin installing the first row of PET flooring along the chalk line you drew earlier. If the PET flooring has a click – lock system, align the tongue of one plank with the groove of the next plank and press them together firmly until you hear a click. Make sure the planks are straight and flush against each other.
If the flooring uses an adhesive installation method, apply the adhesive to the subfloor or the back of the planks according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Then, place the planks in position and press them down firmly to ensure proper adhesion.
Cut the last plank in the row to fit the remaining space. Use a sharp utility knife or a saw to make the cut. Make sure the cut is straight and accurate.
Step 6: Continuing the Installation
As you continue to install the subsequent rows, stagger the joints between the planks to create a more natural and stable appearance. This also helps to distribute the stress evenly across the floor.
For click – lock flooring, insert the end of the plank at an angle into the groove of the previous row and then lower it down until it clicks into place. For adhesive – installed flooring, apply the adhesive and place the planks as before.
When you reach the end of a row, cut the last plank to fit the remaining space as you did in the first row.
Step 7: Cutting Around Obstacles
When you encounter obstacles such as doorways, columns, or pipes, you need to cut the PET flooring to fit around them. Use a jigsaw or a coping saw to make precise cuts. First, measure the shape and size of the obstacle and transfer the measurements onto the plank. Then, carefully cut along the marked lines.
Step 8: Finishing Touches
After all the planks are installed, check for any loose or uneven areas. If there are any gaps between the planks, you can use a flooring filler to fill them.
Install baseboards or quarter – round molding around the perimeter of the room to cover the expansion gap between the wall and the flooring. This not only enhances the appearance of the floor but also provides protection against damage.
Step 9: Cleaning and Maintenance
Once the installation is complete, clean the floor using a mild detergent and a soft mop. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbers that can damage the surface of the PET flooring.

Regular maintenance includes sweeping or vacuuming the floor to remove dirt and debris. You can also use a damp mop to clean the floor periodically.
